one night in… Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel is most famous for its winter season: not only does the small Tyrolean town provide great skiing, cozy Après ski and lavish nightlife but it also offers a unique atmosphere, courtesy of a its scenic setting combined with authentic and genuine Austrian hospitality.

If you go in the winter, make sure you don’t miss the annual Hahnenkamm Race down the legendary Streif, undoubtedly the world’s most challenging ski run.

Visiting in the summer is equally exciting as Kitzbühel is the ideal base to start hiking trips onto the many peaks around. There is a multitude of hiking trails for all skill levels, from slowly steeping forest roads to challenging fixed rope routes.

A good “base camp” is the Hotel Schloss Lebenberg, one of Kitzbühel’s oldest inns: dating back to 1446, it was Hugo Count Lamberg who started renting out apartments to the first English visitors in the late 1880s. Following a comprehensive extension, the castle today combines the magic of bygone days with modern day comforts and luxury.

It’s extensive Spa is perfect to recover from extensive hikes and the gigantic infinity pool on the seventh floor is bliss, offering staggering views over the mountains and the Streif run on the opposite hillside.
